Sketching with Style
December 7, 2020If you still haven’t, start doing some sketches today! These are incredibly useful for all designers, no matter what your field is. A sketch is the easiest way to translate a quick idea from your brain down on paper.
If you become good at it, you will be able to express your ideas to clients and empolyers straight away! More than that, imagine not wasting hours before your idea gets approved.
Quick sketching comes with practice, especially in the interior design field I find it so useful.
The way I learned to do quick sketches:
-I learned perspective drawing by hand.
-I copied examples to get the angles right.
- I did it every day until I felt confident in it.
-First it was taking 1 hour, then 10 minutes.
- I used different media - mostly pen, pencil, watercolour or just 3 colours mix.
- First I used ruler just for the angles, but all else I tried to do quickly and just get the object shape.
-I learned and studied how others did it - look Andrea Prandini’s iliustration here:

-when I learned the basics, I started sketching my own ideas.
I suggest that you choose your own type of sketching that you need for your field. Is it fashion sketching, interior, mood boards or simply product design ideas.
Every great idea in design comes from a sketch!
Your work is as good as you communicate it! And a picture speaks a thousand words!
Drawing has proven to affect your strategic thinking, focus and calm your mind!
More than just benefiting your work, sketching can become one of your favourite activities in the design process.
Also it doesn’t need to be hard. You don’t have to be great at it to start. You can even start with some unrelated to your field sketches, just to get some practice. Draw shapes, buildings, objects, comics, abstracts or your ideas.
